I would like to use my voice for all/most of the Kindergarten Teachers in SDHC.For years Kdg. Teachers have done without the 30 min. planning time as stated in the contract. Many reasons given:they have "paras", not in the "specialist" contract (PE,Music,Art), etc. But,here's the "kicker" some schools do provide the planning time some do not. It should be consistent through out the district. Kdg. teachers are now part of the grades 1-5 pool, so we should be included in the same contract provisions. We had a "heated" discussion about PLC's at our school yesterday, Yes, on the last day for teachers, when we should of been packing our classrooms. We "voted" to have our PLC's during the day ( as it has been for 2 school years ) or after school. After school won. Let's just say... Robert's Rules of Order was not followed. (hee hee) That's the only time our Kdg. Kids got a taste of "specials" which they learned and loved so much. Now, it has been taken away along with planning time for Kdg. Teachers which was only on Mondays! Yes, one day a week. Besides that , our "paras" are constantly being pulled to proctor tests, fill in as subs, work in the lunchroom, etc. So, please do not accept the reason why Kdg. teachers do not get the 30 min. planning time is because they have "paras". We have 8 units of Kdg. and only 3 "paras". They are so over worked and under paid. We as Kdg. Teachers feel as if we do not count and because our kids are "little" they are over looked. The SDHC needs to value Early Childhood Education and realize its importance especially in early interventions. Please bring these topics up ASAP. I know Mrs. D. Edgecomb was to meet with a few Kdg. Teachers yesterday ( 6/5/08) about Kdg. concerns. Please give our "little ones" a voice and let's do what's right and just for them. Thank YOU, AprilAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
