Tell me what you think

Since 2006 I have had the honor of representing all Hillsborough County children and voters...I created this blog in 2007 and have welcomed the opportunity for feed back throughout my term.

I am now a candidate for re-election and I need your help. Visit my website at http://www.voteapril.com/ .

I still want your input. If you think something is wrong, then tell me how it can be better. If you have information that would help our children, employees, or taxpayers, this is the place to share.

Please also note that this is my personal blog, not the board's. Furthermore, the opinions expressed by posters on this blog may or may not necessarily reflect my opinions or those of the School Board.

Again, if you want to follow my campaign you can go to http://www.voteapril.com .

You can also write me at april@voteapril.com or call 813-417-1102 .

At your service,

April Griffin,
Hillsborough County School Board Member, and Candidate
District 6 (Countywide)

This is what they want you to forget

As this political cycle has developed into a particularly nasty event I wanted to remind everyone of what we are doing and why they don't want us to keep doing it.

Below I am going to paste just a few reminders of circumstances where we are challenging the status quo on with the ultimate goal of changing the culture of the Hillsborough County School District. I know there are some that feel the entire board is a rubber stamp for the administration, but I am no body's patsy and I am going to continue asking questions and pushing for real change, whether they like it or not. When you don't hear me making noise it doesn't mean I am not fighting. I sometimes have to get people in the community motivated on certain issues behind the scenes and then we will rise up and fight when we have more power in numbers.

Uncomfortable conversations

I WILL NOT go along to get along My mom used to say "if it feels wrong it is wrong" and if the conversation makes you uncomfortable maybe you should assess what is making you feel that way.

District hiring needs to be addressed

Unfortunately April we live in a "what have you done for me lately" world. Some of the items you mentioned, while important, are somewhat dated (with the exception of your endorsement for School Board).

I would like to see you take a more active/visible role in stopping the unfair administrative appointments. We all know of "shady" appointments when there were a multitude of qualified (and highly qualified) individuals, yet they weren't even granted an opportunity to interview. What, if anything, can be done?

Overall, I think you are doing a great job. I can commiserate with you on how tiring the constant battles are on a person. But, we the people, need to know that someone is TRULY representing us, the little people, on OUR school board.

I know that I am all over the place in my response to you. But, I wanted to make sure that you knew someone is reading what you write as well as thinking about it.

Aug 12, 9:25 PM,

Those are just a few of the battles, not all.

As to the "shady" appointments I need input from the community and employees who have knowledge of things I may not know. I hardly ever get input on people who have applied for positions until after the appointment is recommended and approved. I need information before the vote is made and if I have cause I will investigate.

Do not worry I am not tired and always put things in perspective.

Thank you for your input. It is valued more than you know.

Dont worry Ms. Griffin. You have the support of many teachers. I look forward to meeting you some day.

I am too old to be worried about retaliation, besides I have already had a taste of it and I am still here. :)
