Thanks to all who supported and voted for Susan Valdes and Stephen Gorham for school board.
Susan Valdes won her seat easily and Stephen Gorham is in a run-off. The night ended exactly the way I knew it would and I feel very comfortable with where we are at right now.
Read the St. Pete Times article here.
On to round two where the work begins again. Real change is going to require real work.
If you are interested in helping email info@stephengorham.com and let him know you read about him on sound off and be heard.
SOUND OFF AND BE HEARD You have a voice...use it. Share information to help Hillsborough County school children, school employees, and taxpayers.
Tell me what you think
Since 2006 I have had the honor of representing all Hillsborough County children and voters...I created this blog in 2007 and have welcomed the opportunity for feed back throughout my term.
I am now a candidate for re-election and I need your help. Visit my website at http://www.voteapril.com/ .
I still want your input. If you think something is wrong, then tell me how it can be better. If you have information that would help our children, employees, or taxpayers, this is the place to share.
Please also note that this is my personal blog, not the board's. Furthermore, the opinions expressed by posters on this blog may or may not necessarily reflect my opinions or those of the School Board.
Again, if you want to follow my campaign you can go to http://www.voteapril.com .
You can also write me at april@voteapril.com or call 813-417-1102 .

Congrats to Susan. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but it definitely is looking good. Time now to get the word out on Gorham. Start talking teachers!
Ms Griffin
I have emailed the address you had on this blog entry inquiring as to where I can send a campaign donation for the run off. I let them know that it was your support of his candidacy that encouraged me to vote for him and to donate to his effort.

Yes!! Congrats to Susan. Please help by finding answers to these issues:Kindergarten is now part of the "pool" not separate as before - same contract NO SPECIALS ie planning time. So, we have paras depending on number of units = time in classroom can be less than an hour of time. ESE classes have paras and specials. When will this be justified? Student enrollment is extremely low especially in Kindergarten! We need the "new" procedures posted on SDHC website before the "pool". Rumors state Admin. has more "power" on how to place us. Seems unfair, this is our passion and life we should have options. Solutions ? I'm trying, really trying to come up with some. Talked with a friend who is a CEO in a corp, since schools are being "run" that way now a days, He says... "OUTSOURCE"
Now that Sarah Palin has burst onto the national political scene with her 'I don't care how it was done before' attitude, maybe the rest of the board will wake up and understand that Americans are sick and tired of their 'go along to get along' method of operation. Suddenly, challenging the system is in vogue!
I have the courage to do what is right, and I am going to be voting for Stephen Gorham come November.
I urge everyone that does read these comments to please go to Steve's web site and not only pledge your vote for him, but send him a few bucks too!
The only way to do what is right by the kids is to get "Grandma" out of there.
A 20th century mindset does no good in a 21st Century world.
